FCRA

The US Fair Credit Reporting Act, which governs data used to decide eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, or housing.

The FCRA regulates consumer reports and the agencies that assemble them. If data is used to decide whether someone gets a loan, a job, an apartment, or an insurance policy, that use falls under the Act, which brings accuracy duties, dispute rights, and adverse-action notice requirements.

Validation data is not a consumer report and we are not a consumer reporting agency. Knowing that an email is deliverable or a phone number is a mobile is not eligibility information, and it must not be used as though it were.

This matters because the boundary is defined by use, not by the data itself. The same lookup can be lawful for fraud prevention and unlawful for a hiring decision. Our terms prohibit the second, and identity-sensitive products require a declared purpose that is logged.
