OFAC SDN list
The US Treasury list of Specially Designated Nationals, the people and entities US persons are prohibited from dealing with.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control publishes designated individuals, companies, and vessels, along with known aliases and identifying details. US persons and businesses are prohibited from transacting with them, and the obligation applies regardless of company size.
Screening means matching a name against the list, including aliases and spelling variants, since designated parties rarely present themselves under the exact listed form. A screening tool that only does exact matching gives false comfort.
