Abstract API alternatives

If you are weighing up a move off Abstract API, here are the options that actually exist, what to check before you commit, and the cases where staying put is the right call.

Why people look

Common reasons to shop around

  • You are managing a separate subscription and quota per endpoint, and the admin overhead exceeds the value.
  • You want one balance that moves with your mix instead of guessing each product's volume in advance.
  • You need the compliance-side products, sanctions and company screening, from the same vendor.

One credit balance across every product, including sanctions screening and SEC company enrichment.

Abstract API

Broad catalogue of small utility APIs beyond validation, including some we do not offer such as exchange rates and screenshots.

1Lookup

The closest single-balance competitor to us, with a wider people-data catalogue and a heavier reliance on resold vendors.

Before you switch

Three things worth checking

One balance or many quotas

Per-endpoint quotas mean stranded credit in the products you used less than expected.

Which parts are resold

Multi-service catalogues are often thin wrappers over other vendors. Ask which engines are theirs; the answer predicts both price stability and support quality.

Compliance coverage

Sanctions and registry screening are rarely present in general-purpose utility catalogues, and adding a second vendor later costs more than choosing once.

Moving across

What the switch actually involves

  1. 01

Count the quotas you are juggling

Their model is a separate product and a separate allowance per API. If you use three of them, you are managing three quotas; here it is one balance across every product.

  2. 02

    The endpoints

POST /api/verify-email, /api/lookup-phone, /api/lookup-ip and /api/lookup-domain. Same authorisation header, same response shape, same credit balance.

  3. 03

    What changes in the answers

Email carries the domain's SPF, DMARC and DKIM posture; phone carries complaint history and your own suppression list; IP carries BGP routing and RPKI validation. None of those are in a general-purpose utility catalogue.

  4. 04

What you must keep them for

Everything that is not contact data — VAT numbers, exchange rates, screenshots, holidays. We do not sell any of it and are not going to.

  5. 05

    Run both for a week

Point a copy of your traffic at both and compare only the disagreements per product.

When to buy something else

If you want a grab-bag of unrelated utility endpoints, currency conversion, screenshots, geocoding, we are narrow on purpose and will not cover them.
