Free mail provider
A consumer mailbox host such as Gmail or Outlook, as opposed to a company-owned domain.
Identifying a free provider tells you the address is personal rather than corporate. That is a qualification signal in B2B contexts: a lead using a company domain is easier to attribute to an organisation, while a free-provider address gives you no firmographic anchor.
It says nothing about deliverability. Consumer mailboxes are usually the best-maintained addresses a person has, and free-provider domains are strict about authentication, so mail to them fails for authentication reasons more often than for mailbox reasons.
The check is a lookup against a maintained list of provider domains, refreshed on the same daily schedule as the disposable list.
