MaxMind Ships a Database. Veriastra Ships an Answer.
MaxMind provides IP geolocation and fraud data, including self-hosted database options. Veriastra returns the resolved answer over an API, with the contact-validation side included.
Nothing to host or refresh
Our geo, ASN, datacenter and abuse data is rebuilt daily on our side; you call an endpoint.
Components, not just a score
ASN, organisation, hosting classification, anonymiser status and blocklist matches are all returned, so a decision can be explained.
Email and phone too
The same balance validates the address and number attached to that IP.
Where MaxMind is the better buy
Every product has a job it is built for. These are the jobs where MaxMind is the answer and we are not, said plainly so you can tell in two minutes whether the rest of this page applies to you.
If you only need a country and a city
GeoIP2 Country is $0.0001 a query, City Plus $0.0003 — well under our per-credit price for exactly those two answers.
The moment you also need to know whether the address is a proxy, their answer is the Insights tier at $0.002 a query, which is what our entire report costs.
So the rule is simple: geolocation alone, buy theirs; geolocation plus a judgement, ours is already cheaper.
If you cannot make a network call at all
Their databases install locally and answer with no per-request cost and no network hop — the right answer for an air-gapped environment or a hot path that cannot afford the round trip.
We answer over HTTP only, and a file on disk cannot tell you what a routing table said this morning. Pick by which of those two constraints binds you.
Two decades of geolocation corrections
Their accuracy record on city-level placement is the reference the rest of the industry is measured against.
